Evaluation
Welcome to the OpCit project working
results site. The purpose of this site is to demonstrate the latest results
of open citation analysis and reference linking
being performed using data from papers in the arXiv.org physics archives.
This site is for project evaluation only. It is not part of the arXiv service,
although we are working with arXiv developers to find a way in which
the Opcit citation and reference linking data can be added to the service, or in which arXiv users can be linked to our service.
V. 2.1 Citation Analysis and Reference Linking demonstrator (March 2002)
(Almost) the whole archive - linked! With reference links and citation analysis. The Opcit project links
each of the 150,000+ papers in the arXiv physics archives to every other
paper in the archives that it cites. Also - this is the clever part - discover what other papers cite a chosen paper.
Due to changes in the management of the underlying databases, V. 2.1 is a more robust and reliable version of the V. 2.0 Citation and Reference Linking demo, originally announced in August 2001.
V. 1.0 Reference Linking demonstrator (May 2000) Results of evaluation
Superseded and no longer fully operational, but still illustrates the principles of the original approach to reference linking used by the project.
Papers from arXiv are converted to PDF for this demonstrator? Find out how and why.
OpCit demonstrators: looking ahead
The Open Citation project is a research and development project which began
in October 1999. In terms of features the current version of the demonstrator exceeds the plan outlined in the original project proposal. It presents reference links and citation analysis of over 150 000 papers from the arXiv physics archives.
Evaluation of demonstrators produced by the project is based on a three-year evaluation plan. In future versions we hope to show links to papers in more disciplines (not just physics), to more archives
participating in the Open Archives initiative, and to other publishing
and library services too.
In building the demonstrator the ultimate intent is to:
- help you to access specified documents, or to provide you with advanced tools based on citation analysis to identify suitable documents that might assist a research query
-
link documents from wherever they may be served (mostly servers participating in the Open
Archives initiative)
-
and allow you to select the desired version of the requested document
You can also see an earlier demonstration
of reference linking produced by the Open Journal project, in which a number of partners from OpCit were involved.
We are grateful to our
colleagues at arXiv.org, and the maintainers of the arXiv
mirror at Southampton University, for permission to use their services
in this project.
