Explore Open Archives and eprint archives

The great opportunity of networked information environments, especially those mediated via the Web, is that content and services can be independent. The Open Archives initiative formalised this by defining data providers, the archive maintainers, and service providers. Here we have begun building a comprehensive gateway to Open Archives and other eprint archives. We also list the emerging archives services that provide enhanced access. Our reference linking service, the principal component of our work, will become an integral part of this gateway and will cover as many of the listed archives and support as many complementary services as possible - see the list of archive and service providers we are working with.

We only list full-text archives and services that can be accessed for free for scholarly research. To add to the list or correct a list entry, contact Steve Hitchcock.

Other eprint services

PrePRINT Network
-  search and browse preprints in the areas of physics, materials, chemistry, mathematics, biology, environmental sciences and other related areas from sites hosted by academic institutions, government research laboratories, scientific societies, private research organizations, and individual scientists and researchers  (U.S. Department of Energy)
MathNet.preprints
-  searchable index of mathematics preprints from nine archives
Journal of High Energy Physics, JHEP
- peer reviewed journal, papers can be submitted by placing in arXiv and notifying the archive preprint number. Published versions retain links to archive version (Scuola Internazionale Superiore di Studi Avanzati, SISSA, Trieste, Italy)
* NTRS - http://techreports.larc.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/NTRS
discounting the ADS documents it provides access to (300k+), there are
still 17k+ documents accessible by NTRS.  provided from smaller archives
(e.g., 7k, 6k, 2k, etc.)
* ResearchIndex - http://citeseer.nj.nec.com/cs
claims access to 250k+ full text documents.  but these documents are
spidered from various existing archives

RePEc
- information about economics research papers, journal publications and software in economics from a collection of Web or FTP archive providers. A number of services provide access to selected papers described in the RePEc database ...
RePEc-based services
WoPEc, electronic papers in economics
- downloadable (but not necessarily free) documents from the RePEc dataset
IDEAS, Internet Documents in Economics Access Service
