Achievements and shared activity

  • Cornell's part: to build a Reference Linking API that can be used to develop further reference linking tools and applications
  • A cornerstone of the API's implementation is Carr's "deciter" software
  • Timeline: design done, end of 1999. Coding mostly done, end of 2000. Sample applications, quality improvement, 2001
  • Current performance (in terms of accuracy of data extracted):
    • Reference analysis (using deciter + Cornell's enhancements): 86.7%
    • Item analysis (bib data, contexts, and references for a given paper): 82.42 %
Implementability
  • Simple interface: Surrogate s = new Surrogate(some-url)
  • Portable: written in Java, has run in Solaris, Win2K, and NT4
  • Installation: API source code plus public domain jar files
