Dear Sir/Madam, We are researching the "social life" of the Los Alamos Physics Archive. In collaboration with Paul Ginsbarg, founder of the archive, we hope our results will improve archive services to users. Our results are revealing many interesting aspects of the archive. For example, between 1991 and 2000 the ratio of citations to articles in arXiv has increased from 1 in 20 to 9 in 20. You, as an arXiv author, can provide us with information that we cannot obtain from the archive data. For instance, what proportion of papers do authors deposit in arXiv. So that you might assist us I have attached a short questionnaire and would be grateful for your co-operation in replying either by email or by filling in a web form: http://fluffy.ecs.soton.ac.uk/~tdb198/opcit/survey/form.php3?ref=$authorref To find out more about what we're doing please visit: http://fluffy.ecs.soton.ac.uk/~tdb198/opcit/ http://fluffy.ecs.soton.ac.uk/~ijh198/opcit/ I would also be pleased to hear any comments, questions or criticisms you have; either email me or leave a comment on the site. Yours faithfully, Tim Brody Email: tdb198@soton.ac.uk Web: http://www.ecs.soton.ac.uk/~tdb198/ Open Citation Project: http://opcit.eprints.org/ Electronics and Computer Science, University of Southampton --------------------------------------------------------------------------- $authorref Q1.
